Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.~ Benjamin Franklin.

Heading into a new year is always a touch odd. I don't really do resolutions despite the myriads that do. I kinda prefer a simple daily quote like this to muse on. I particularly like this one for its simplicity. It reminds me to get involved and start doing new things so as to better learn and grow from the experience rather than be a sideline player. It is also a good reminder to myself as someone who is trying to grow as a leader, to take the time to teach people what they need to know. To get in there and work along side them to help them achieve their goals.

I've always been a member first kind of guy here in KSI. That includes myself. I think of myself as a member who has a voice that can help others motivate, strive and grow within the community rather than by whatever rank I may hold at any given time. This simple quote goes a long way for me in that mindset because it is a reminder that teaching and involving are two different things. For example, our recruiting workshops teach people how to recruit adeptly, However hosting a recruiting party after the workshop is involving people so that they may learn by doing in the confidence that they have immediate help there if it is needed. The leader who gets involved will always be learning as well. Good ol' Ben  Franklin knew a thing or two. Thanks Ben!

Yolo.

You Only Live Once. Yeah I know, it's a little cliche. Well, many people know that I already say yolo every once in a while. Life is too short to worry about stupid things and not take risks. In my opinion, people don't take enough chances and generally play it safe. I've learned so much thus far by straying from the written rules and just saying yolo. If I get in trouble for yolo'ing something then I will learn from my mistakes. You never know what could be achieved if you take a chance and just go for it!

“The night is Darkest right before the dawn” Thomas Fuller

I’ve seen this quote around a lot in different media formats. I don’t remember where I heard it first but it’s always stuck with me. Probably because it helps this wayward son carry on. The last year has been really hard for me and my family but we survived to see the dawn rise as we have many times before and it’s all thanks to God. In this new year I hope to remember this quote when it seems too dark to ever be dawn again. So when you feel at your lowest when you feel alone in the universe when you feel everything and everyone has betrayed you remember Friends the Night is Darkest just before the dawn.

I have two actually that are near and dear to my heart

“We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.” ― Tom Stoppard

I think many of us forget that your progress in life is for ourselves and not others. To me the quote reminds me to keep moving forward. No matter has happened in my past its behind me while I will still remember it but it's not something i have to keep looking back at. It even reminds me it's okay to remove people in mylife who are toxic and reminds others that doing what's best for you is number one!! The quote seems sad and a downer but to me it reminds me to keep going.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”― Martin Luther King Jr.

We tend to forget that love is an actual thing. I always come back to this quote when I feel like someone has done me wrong, it reminds me that this person must be going through more than myself and reflecting that anger on to me. Instead of getting mad and sending hate back i try to show compassion and love. Now that i am older I try my best to live by MLKJ words.

Going in to 2020 i think both are very important and I hope whoever is reading this gets something out of it!!

A wise friend told me when I was at my lowest (no matter what comes a true leader shows the world he can always keep fighting no matter the war till his last breath ) I was told this when I was at a point I didn't think I could come back from I had been knocked down so meny times but them words stuck with me every day for the rest of my life now I use them to keep going and also to represent my self IRL and also in ksi to the rest of the outside world what I have become and what ksi is it may not mean anything to people reading this it may also help others I hope

One of my favorite sayings came from the Babylon 5 Show.  It was "The avalanche has started it is too late for the pebbles to vote"

It is so typical of me to want to fix something that is way passed fixing. I just have to learn what caused the avalanche and what I need to do to prevent it from happening again.  So I guess this is less a mantra and more a warning to myself to not let little things build into an avalanche

Inspirational quote

“Ever since I was a little boy, I always thought that the world was going to end in my lifetime
So I tried to seize every opportunity as it came to me because I believed it might stop the sky from falling down one more day
But the older I got, the more I realized that I cannot save the world
I'm not a superhero, I'm not perfect, I'm just me, a human being”  Ronnie Radke of Falling in Reverse-Losing my mind

I have listened to this song many times and I take this lyric/quote into deep consideration because i used to do the same thing, not only did it get me into trouble but in all reality it nearly took my life. We are all human and we all make mistakes, don’t let the mistakes you have made change your future for the worst, keep a positive outlook on things and strive to be better. Life is too short for you to wonder about the “what ifs” in life. Live for the day, love one another, build everyone up and not tear them down, and most importantly keep your head up! It always rains before you see a rainbow. You never know what kind of day someone is having and even if they tell you their day is fine sometimes it might not be. Sometimes we expect too much from people and then criticize and bash them for not being able to live up to our expectations. I feel with the new decade being here already that we can all take a step back, reevaluate everything and push for a more positive outlook on human beings as a whole. There are some bad ones out there and our positive footprint may be small but its a start, but with it being as small as it is it can only get bigger from here❤️

If anything is going to govern my year, it will be the word growth. We are imperfect souls living in an imperfect world. Each of us has things we can change. No one will ever reach perfection, so growth is always possible. I strive to see myself in a realistic light, so that I can adequately recognize my flaws and work to change them. I want to be the best me I can, and that isn't possible without growth. It can be something small like a wholesome breakfast every morning or something big like being nicer to people. I strive to continually reevaluate my circumstances and make adjustments towards reaching my goal. Life isn't stagnant, so I shouldn't be either. It is constantly growing and evolving. I don't really do new years resolutions because I believe it sets you up to fail. I start small and work towards bigger changes to achieve lasting results and form new productive habits.

My quote is "stand by your allies never run from a battle" i got it from power rangers samurai...the entire genre put everything into perspective because its all about never giving up and keeping your friends close. no matter what you should stand side by side...and i live by that respect and love for friendship. I have a few close friends in KSI already @Chi Town’s Finest aka KSI xKamikaze @KSI Kilroy69 @refluentstorm55and the list only starts there. I believe in my heart family is not just blood its who you choose to stand side by side with every single day. Together you never give up.

I was having a hard time with this topic. Then, in a really bizarre turn of drunken events, I was watching Dodgeball with some friends (I do not recommend drinking every time someone says dodgeball) and something Vince Vaughn's character said struck a chord: "I found that if you have a goal, you might not reach it. But if you don't have one, then you are never disappointed. And I've gotta tell you, it feels phenomenal."

I've gotta tell you though, it doesn't.

Going into 2020 I am concentrating on the mantra: Conscious Goals. I need to really pay attention to what it is I want to accomplish on a greater scale, not just on the smaller individual tasks. I make little goals in my head, but the big, signficant ones freak me out. I think sometimes I feel like I don't deserve the bigger, greater outcomes so I avoid letting myself want/focus on them. I always thought I was terrible at making big goals, but maybe it's that I am terrible at admitting to them. I still get that feeling of disappointment when something I have been considering doesn't work out, but I don't get that inverse feeling of accomplishment when it does. I don't really admit that it's what I am working towards. I will ponder it and consider it. I hear "wouldn't it be nice if..." in my head a lot, but I worry about getting my hopes up. If you don't get your hopes up sometimes and work towards something you don't get that phenomenal feeling of satisfaction. Without something to work towards we can get stagnant and complacent. Stagnancy doesn't help anyone. Without goals we are less likely to learn, improve and grow.

Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and twice as beautiful as you've ever imagined - Dr Seuss

Several months back my whole world crashed around me. It took every bit of strength I thought I had lost to pick myself up off the ground and stand up. I had to tell myself i had to be better then this mess that was just thrown at me and show my kid that I am stronger then this. I had to be not only my strength but i had to be my kids strength. So when I came across the quote it stuck with me because let me tell you I have never been or felt that low and worthless in my life. So on days I need that little extra I read that quote a few times and stand a little taller and that more stronger.
